Couple of people in my family have actually gotten plastic surgery done and they liked their plastic surgeon but I feel comfortable going to a female because she knows how the female body works, she knows what goes on with pregnancy, she knows how to fix it. I think female and male doctors have different points and different perspectives on a female’s body. I mean the moment I walked in I had my two kids and my husband with me and Judy actually came around and shook my hand and made me feel like I was really welcome like a patient that they’ve known for years when I really just walked in the door for the first time. So she just has a way with patients and a way with people that you can tell that she totally cares about you and your recovery process and your process of just going through being a mom and she knows why your body’s affected and how she wants to fix it. I just felt like I was really well prepared for the surgery with all of the staff, they all answered all of my questions. Judie the front office is great. Rosie is amazing, and Dr. McCormack herself is great. My mom cannot believe the results, my husband cannot believe the results. It’s just amazing what she took off and it’s just amazing how I look now. You know you can still be a hot mom when you have kids, so it’s just been really really great.

Reno Mommy Makeover Patient Testimonial

I’m the mother of two beautiful young girls and having them has been the highlight of my life. It’s all I ever wanted was to have beautiful babies. But after the kids I didn’t like the effects on my body. I worked for two years with a personal trainer, I lost the 55 pounds I had put on with my youngest daughter, but some things about my body hard work exercise and dieting just weren’t going to fix. And I went back and forth because as a mom we live for our children and I was worried about spending the money on myself and the recovery period away from my kids because I couldn’t be home for the day or so afterwards. But one of my friends said to me something that stuck with me, she’s also a mother and she said if you can’t be proud of yourself how can you raise daughters who love themselves? I ended up here with Dr. McCormack because I appreciated that she was a woman and a mother and understood my issues. Her qualifications were impeccable, I was very impressed with both her education and the quality that they talked about that she was a resident, she was head resident and the different awards she’d won certainly attracted me. It was sort of like getting a makeover for the day. My husband and I came in together and got to try all sorts of different things out. She talked about what I would look like when we were finished and I left so excited I scheduled my surgery that day. And now when I look in the mirror I’m just proud, I love to go shopping, I feel proud of myself when I walk down the street in a way I haven’t since I was about 18 years old. It’s important to have a good self aspect and this has allowed me to do so.

The McCormack Plastic Surgery Experience

I wasn’t really looking for any plastic surgery at this point in my life but I realized after having three children I’d been noticing how my body’s been changing, not that I’m necessarily very old but I’ve had children and I’m just starting to notice some changes as I’ve come out of the pregnancy experience. So I’ve always been kind of curious about what’s available and out there. But then I actually had an opportunity to meet Dr. McCormack. Then I started doing some research about her and learning about her experience and I realized that plastic surgery was right for me at this stage in my life. That I wasn’t too young for it and I didn’t really want major changes but that she could make significant small changes, the changes that make a significant difference in I think how I look and how I feel about myself. She had incredible qualifications and I also really like that she was a mom like me and that she really understood that I didn’t want anything drastic. She was really very informative, very thorough about explaining things, and just I think really good at listening to what I really wanted as opposed to what she thought I needed. So it felt like a very safe environment. If you’re at all considering even just thinking about the possibility of any sort of plastic surgery procedure I would definitely come and talk with Dr. McCormack because I think she can really help you understand what it is about your body that you’re unhappy with and what your options are. So I think it’s worth getting the information and coming and seeing for yourself that she’s somebody that you can really trust and feel safe with.

Reno Mommy Makeover Plastic Surgery

A large part of my practice is the mommy makeover population. I see a lot of patients who have lost all of their baby weight but still have problem areas that won’t go away with diet and exercise alone. So most commonly those areas would be the breast and the abdomen and sometimes the areas around the hips. As a woman and as a mother I completely understand the changes that a woman’s body goes through following pregnancy and breast feeding. Even though most mothers can find time to exercise and diet and take care of themselves there are certain parts of the body that aren’t amenable to being fixed without surgical intervention. For example, the abdominal muscles become stretched apart. Sometimes that needs to be surgically tightened. Some of the excess skin on the abdomen needs to be surgically removed. Even if you lose more weight the skin will only sag because it just isn’t filled out anymore. As a board-certified plastic surgeon of course safety is always my primary concern and these are elective procedures so to me it’s important to stage these procedures and not spend too much time on the operating table at once to increase their risk factors.

Tummy Tuck Surgery with Tiffany McCormack MD

Abdominoplasties or tummy tucks are one of my favorite procedures mostly because there’s such an immediate gratification. It’s not like liposuction where you have to wait for the swelling to go down for several weeks. Patients come in and immediately they’re clothes fit differently, they can see an immediate result. Often this is a part of a woman’s body that hasn’t gotten better with exercise, maybe because the muscles have been stretched or they have a lot of stretch marks on the lower part of the abdomen or the skin has been stretched out and all the sit-ups in the world aren’t helping and that’s where I come in and I can tighten those muscles and take away that extra skin and hopefully a lot of those stretch marks and they can see an immediate result when they come in for their first visit. That’s very rewarding.

Reno Lake Tahoe Liposuction

Liposuction is a great procedure for those exercise-resistant pockets of fat on multiple areas of the body. I do liposuction sometimes on the neck and chin, the arms, the back, the abdomen, the waist, the hips, the saddlebags, the inner thighs. I think it’s very important for patients to understand that you have to maintain a healthy diet and an exercise program to keep that weight off after liposuction. One of the most common questions I get in consultation is whether they will ever gain that weight back in the same place or if it’s impossible because I’ve taken off all the fat cells? Maybe they’ve heard that they’ll gain weight somewhere very fun if I say do liposuction on the abdomen, can they then gain more weight on the back or on the arms? People hear a lot of information and one of my jobs during the consultation is to help a patient determine what’s true, what’s fact and what’s fiction and what is important. And again one of the important parts is to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, this isn’t for weight loss per se it’s more for those areas that have been resistant to weight loss even if they’re losing weight everywhere else.

A significant portion of my practice is dedicated to the post-bariatric population group. I really enjoy working with these patients. I always feel like I’m part of the process where the butterfly is coming out of the cocoon. Often these are staged procedures because there are multiple parts of the body that need to be addressed so given that I take a lot of time with these patients. In other words I may get to know them for 2 years at a time before everything is complete.

I can attribute choosing plastic surgery to an episode of 60 minutes that I watched many years ago while thinking about going to medical school. This episode was about Stanford plastic surgeons who were traveling to underserved areas around the world to perform cleft lip and cleft palette repairs. I had never traveled outside of the United States at that time and I thought what a wonderful way to travel and serve others. As it turned out when I was accepted into Stanford for the combined plastic and general surgery residency there was an organization called Interplas that happened to be the same organization that headed up that team that I saw on 60 minutes so many years before and I really felt like everything came full circle at that point. I was able to actually go on mission trips myself and eventually my career fulminated into all the aspects of plastic surgery, not only the reconstructive aspects but cosmetic.

Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is also particularly challenging because again it’s such a prominent feature on a person’s face. Even a subtle change in maybe just the tip or juts the dorsum of the nose can create such a change in a woman’s face or even a man’s face. It can actually really help us achieve a balance and even if it was just a very small change all of a sudden they look very different in pictures and feel so much more confident about themselves. The reason we have aestheticians in this office is to offer our patients a full range so that we can optimize their results before and after surgery. And there are a lot of techniques out there now it’s not just about making lips bigger. We try to fill in the parentheses around the mouth. There are other lines around the face that can be filled or softened, sometimes with just Botox. We actually use fillers now to help with the grooves under the eyes and sometimes smooth out the jaw line. There’s something now called a liquid face lift where we use fillers in the midface area to try to make a more prominent cheekbone and to try to restore again that volume that I was talking about earlier. It’s not just about making things tight you have to restore volume and reposition things.
