Introducing Dr. Nichole Joslyn: Welcome to Our Practice!

Sciton BroadBand Light, or BBL, is an exciting treatment from our Reno medical spa, offering a dynamic and effective way to renew the health and appearance of damaged skin. This powerful method of skin rejuvenation can treat a broad range of concerns, from a red, blotchy, or discolored complexion to fine lines, freckles, and large pores. Using high-intensity beams of light energy, BroadBand Light therapy is designed to gently heat the skin at multiple layers in order to foster the growth of new, healthy skin as well as reinvigorate collagen production. At M Spa, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Tiffany McCormack, MD, uses the Sciton® laser to administer BBL photorejuvenation treatment with efficacy and precision, giving patients the opportunity to enjoy more vibrant and radiant skin.

What Concerns Can BBL Therapy Treat?

BBL treatment uses state-of-the-art intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to improve an array of common skin conditions that may be compromising an even and healthy-looking skin tone, such as:

  • Redness
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Melasma
  • Dark spots
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • A blotchy or dull complexion
  • Small facial veins

This dermatologic technique is designed to gently penetrate the upper layers of the skin at different wavelengths, not only encouraging the formation of collagen, but also causing the blood vessels to constrict while broken capillaries are erased. This can reduce redness and other skin discoloration, as well as achieve firmer, clearer, and more youthful skin.

What is BBL Treatment Like?

Before your BBL photorejuvenation session, Dr. McCormack will advise you on how to prepare for treatment. Her instructions may involve limiting sun exposure, avoiding tanning beds and self-tanners, or prohibited use of certain medications to achieve the best possible result. At the time of treatment, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the targeted regions in order to increase patient comfort during the session. With that said, most men and women who undergo BBL treatment report minimal discomfort. The Sciton® laser will gently emit bursts of light to the planned treatment areas, with the wavelength of each pulse customized based on your needs and concerns. As your skin absorbs the light energy, dead, unhealthy skin cells will flake off while collagen production is stimulated and broken capillaries are corrected. This can allow the formation of a healthier, more radiant complexion and leave you with an improved skin tone and texture. The number of BBL therapy sessions necessary to treat your concerns depends on the size, depth, location, color, and complexity of your skin condition(s).

Are There Any BBL Laser Side Effects?

After treatment, most patients experience a sunburn-like sensation in the treated area(s), with redness and mild skin swelling commonly lasting for a few hours after BBL photorejuvenation. An ice pack, cool compress, or aloe vera gel can be used to soothe the region while discomfort persists. Dr. McCormack will inform you of what to expect from your unique treatment in greater detail, but in general, areas addressed with the Sciton® laser may appear darker at first and eventually flake off to reveal healthy, undamaged skin. While the results can often be noticed immediately, the outcome typically improves as your skin continues to heal.

How Much Does BBL Treatment Cost?

The cost of BBL phototherapy typically depends on the nature of your concerns and the number of sessions necessary to treat them. This can make it difficult to form an accurate cost estimate for BBL treatment without knowledge of your unique dermatological needs. As multiple treatments are often necessary to achieve optimal improvement, packaged pricing for BBL photorejuvenation is available. After your skin is evaluated in a consultation, a member of our team will provide a personalized quote based on the details of your treatment plan.
