Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for patients 18 and older, KYBELLA® is a revolutionary injectable treatment designed to reduce submental fullness – a concern commonly known as a “double chin”—without the need for incisions, surgery, or substantial downtime. This non-surgical alternative to liposuction of the neck works to break up and destroy targeted fat cells beneath the chin, eventually leading to their disposal via natural bodily processes. By performing minimally invasive KYBELLA® injections in the comfort and convenience of our office, board-certified plastic surgeon Tiffany McCormack, MD can help you achieve a slimmer, more contoured under-chin and jawline aesthetic with long-lasting results.
Benefits of KYBELLA®
Despite faithful attempts at eating a healthy diet and following a regular exercise routine, pockets of fat in some areas of the body remain resistant to change. One of the most common regions in which this stubborn fat persists is underneath the chin. For women and men seeking to eliminate diet and exercise-resistant submental fat, KYBELLA® can offer the following benefits:
- A more toned, youthful-looking under-chin profile
- A minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure
- A relatively short treatment
- Little—if any—downtime
- Long-lasting results that rarely require retreatment
Currently, KYBELLA® is the only procedure to receive FDA-approval for the non-surgical reduction of submental fat.
The KYBELLA® Procedure
The unique KYBELLA® product is composed of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the body. During treatment, the KYBELLA® solution is carefully injected into localized fat accumulations below the chin and/or along the underside of the jawline using an ultra-thin needle. To help diminish any potential discomfort, an anesthetic can be applied topically to the skin in the targeted region. The entire procedure often takes approximately 15-30 minutes to perform, though this timeframe will vary based on the unique needs and goals of each individual.
Following treatment, the majority of patients are able to resume normal daily activities within one to two days, if not later the same day. Some temporary swelling and/or bruising may occur, but these symptoms should subside over time and can often be concealed with makeup. Though rare, any soreness or discomfort experienced after the procedure can generally be controlled with medication.
The effects of KYBELLA® will usually be apparent after about two to four treatments, and most individuals will need a total of six sessions scheduled a minimum of one month apart to attain an ideal outcome. Once the desired results have been achieved, however, additional treatment is typically not needed as long as a relatively healthy lifestyle is maintained.
