Can I Get Liposuction if I Have Loose Skin?

Traditionally, liposuction — a highly popular body contouring procedure designed to remove excess fat — was only recommended for men and women with little to no skin laxity. While the procedure can smooth bulges and resculpt areas affected by fat buildup, liposuction alone usually does not have skin tightening benefits. To patients’ great delight, those with loose skin now have the ability to undergo liposuction and achieve the slimmer, more defined results they desire, thanks to Renuvion® — a non-surgical complement to liposuction that uses radiofrequency (RF) and helium plasma energy to tighten loose, crepey, or sagging skin in the treated area(s).

Also called “J-Plasma,” Renuvion® is a handheld device placed underneath the skin at select entry points during surgery. As excess fat is extracted via liposuction, Renuvion® gently heats the dermal layers using RF energy and helium plasma. This promotes skin and tissue contraction at the same time as fat removal, fully sculpting the region to attain comprehensive body contouring results. When paired with Renuvion®, liposuction patients can improve their body contours by:

  • Slimming fat and minimizing loose skin simultaneously in the arms, hips, thighs, neck, abs, or any other region treated with liposuction
  • Reducing a crepey skin tone in areas of fat accumulation
  • Achieving a more defined look in the face and/or body

For those with mild to moderate skin laxity, a combined liposuction and Renuvion® treatment plan can be a less invasive way to smooth the treated region(s) when compared to undergoing body lifting procedures (such as an arm lift or thigh lift) on top of liposuction.
