How Does CoolSculpting® Work?

CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical procedure designed to reduce stubborn fat buildups in various regions of the body without the discomfort, recovery, or extended downtime often associated with surgical fat removal alternatives. For qualified candidates, the treatment can help produce a more toned and contoured aesthetic in the hips, abdomen, back, arms, and thighs. So how is CoolSculpting® able to do this? The answer is an innovative process known as “cryolipolysis,” which basically freezes targeted fat cells to the point of destruction.

Every type of cell in our bodies is distinctively sensitive to a specific temperature. When in contact with the skin, CoolSculpting® applicators work to cool down fat (adipose) cells to a particular degree that only they are susceptible to, leaving surrounding structures like nerves, muscles, and skin tissues in the targeted region unharmed. Once this unique temperature range is attained, adipose cells crystalize and begin to break down over the course of several months. Eventually, these affected tissues are metabolized by the body and exit by way of natural processes.

The majority of women and men will be able to see visible results from their CoolSculpting® treatment within two to four months, though multiple sessions may be required to achieve an ideal outcome. Because cells fat that are destroyed will never return, CoolSculpting® results can be long-lasting as long as an overall healthy lifestyle is maintained following treatment.
